Mary’s Message:-

Hi everyone. First I must say thankyou to all the people who helped out at the August show and also at the September show. I have been involved in Pony Club and horse clubs for over 30 years and I can honestly say that in all that time I have not seen a better example of a club where everyone just pulls together when needed without being asked.

I am really looking forward to this year’s show season. Our August show was a great success - despite lots of rain before and during the show we still managed to have over 30 horses competing under our Judge, Don Northey. A great day was had by all and I would just like to say that there was a great feeling at the show with everyone helping out where they could and competitors helping the newcomers with the program etc. The sportsmanship between competitors was wonderful and there were a lot of smiling faces. It appeared that everyone had a fun day.

New Committee: I am happy to say that we have a wonderful new committee with everyone wanting to help make the CCRAC the best Western club there is. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and thank all of the new committee members (see above for new officeholders) for their input and enthusiasm at our last meeting. As a result, we have plenty of new and exciting ideas for the CCRAC members.

Novice Versatility: From observation of last year’s shows and the August show, it is obvious that most people go home after the English classes and we feel this may be because of the following reasons;

* Competitors don’t have the right gear for Western.

* Competitors are not sure what is required of them or think they are not good enough to compete in the Western events.

* The extra cost incurred through entering extra events.

We think we have a solution and we have some exciting new changes to our program, some of which were trialled at the September show. We have added a new category to our program, Novice Versatility (or NV). Any competitor may enter these classes and there will be events in the following: Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Trail. The ridden classes in these events will only be at the walk and trot, or walk and jog. Competitors may use any type of saddle, dress etc, as long as it is safe and tidy. People who have educated horses capable of winning Open high point awards may use these classes for training purposes, but we ask that you only enter in a couple of the classes so as not to take the opportunity of winning an end-of-year high point award away from a deserving novice. I will be on hand at the shows to help people understand what is required of them in these events. (See last page of Newsletter for September update of Hi-Point results)

Day Passes: After some careful consideration we have decided to trial a new idea so you can enter as many halter and ridden events as you like and the maximum for an adult rider/handler/horse combination will be $50 for the day, and for a youth rider/handler/horse combination it will be $35. This is for a trial period only, if you think it is a good idea please take advantage of the offer or it will revert back to full prices.

New Program:  Please note we have a new program so please make sure you use the September 2006 version at the end of this newsletter to put in your entries (the program will also be on our website). This program is different from last show so throw away any programs from Sept show.

Finally, I found that due to training and other commitments, I have had to give up my role as Club Treasurer and I would like to thank Kerry Davis-Marsh who has stepped up to fill this role. I am staying on as Show Secretary and Committee member.

Each future newsletter will inform you about one of our Committee members.

MARY WARD (TETERIN)

I started riding when I was about 10 and was involved in Pony Club and hacking until I was 18. I obtained my Instructor's Certificate and taught in this field for a couple of years. I first got involved in Western Horses over 20 years ago and after discovering the Western scene I was quickly converted and I have enjoyed a very successful 20 years breeding and showing both Appaloosas and Quarter Horses. During this time I bred, broke in, trained and showed most of my own horses.

After many hours of hard work and tons of committment I have won many State and National Appaloosa and Quarter Horse titles. I have also achieved high point awards including AAA High Point Amateur of Australia and AAA High Point Performance Horse of Australia. These titles and awards were won by horses I have bred by my QH stallion "Rondel Mega Bar" who is an AQHA Superior Halter Horse and an Australian Quarter Horse Champion with many ROMs, High Point Awards and State and National titles to his name. He is now retired from the show ring and stands at my stud where I breed him to mostly my own mares. His stud fee is $500.

Two years ago I sat for and passed the HSAA Judges course. Last year I decided to give up my Amateur ticket to become a professional trainer. I now look forward to teaching and guiding other Amateurs and Youth to be able to achieve their goals in the show ring. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT THE CLINIC AND THE NEXT SHOW!

Mary Ward.

DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES

Best Coloured Appaloosa and All Best Presented Classes: These classes are not point scoring with the AAA, AQHA or NPHA so the horses entered do not have to be registered with a breed society.

All Breeds Halter: These events are open to any type of horse and the horse does not have to be registered.

Appaloosa, Quarter Horse, and Paint Halter Classes: To show a horse in any of these classes they must be registered and registration papers must be shown to the office prior to entry. (Registration papers only need to be shown once)

Other Breeds Halter Classes: These events may not be entered by any horse that has already been shown in the registered Appaloosa, Quarter Horse or Paint halter classes unless they are dual registered as another breed in which case both sets of registration papers must be shown to office before entry. These events were mainly set up for people who do not have a registered horse or for halter horses that are not already catered for in the program.

Western Showmanship: The handler is judged on how well they show their horse.

Hunt Seat Equitation: The rider is usually asked to ride a pattern and they are judged on how good their seat and position is as well as how they perform the pattern.

Western Equitation: As above. These riding classes may also be judged on the rail.

Western Horsemanship: The rider must perform a pattern and the horse is judged on how well it responds to the cues given by the rider.

Western Riding: This is a set pattern and the horse must be able to do flying changes.

Reining: This is a set pattern where the horse has to perform slow and fast circles, flying changes, 4 fast spins in both directions, rollbacks and sliding stops.

Trail: You may have to perform the following obstacles on your horse: open and shut gate, side pass poles, back through poles, walk, jog or lope over poles, pivot in square etc.

Amateur: To enter these classes you will need to have an A/O certificate.

Beginner: These classes are for beginner riders only.

Non-Pro: These events are for non-professional riders who do not have an A/O certificate.

Novice Versatility (N/V) Walk/Trot/Jog: Any competitor may enter these classes and any attire may be worn as long as it is safe and tidy. People who have educated horses capable of winning open high point awards may use these classes for training purposes but we ask that you only enter in a couple of the classes so as not to take the opportunity of winning an end of year high point award away from a deserving novice who is still learning the events.

ENTRIES for the Show:  Please enter via email to marycatherine1@optusnet.com.au or phone Mary on 4966 5720 by the FRIDAY before each show. You may enter on the morning of the show but there will be a $5.00 Office Fee, and day entries must be submitted prior to 8.30 am on the day of the show to enable us to start on time.

Please note: Classes with a "Y" after the class number on the Program are Youth classes and entry fee is $3.00 (must show class number and "Y" on entry forms). Youth may enter other classes such as Halter, Senior Horse, Beginner etc but must pay the $5.00 entry fee. With a Youth Day Pass, this entitles a Youth Rider/Horse combination to enter as many Youth and Open classes as they want for the fixed fee of $35.00.

OUR NEXT SHOWS AND JUDGES

Please note that the November show will not be held due to the AAA State Show being held in Dubbo from 31st October to 3rd November. (Also, HVRAC wish to advise that their October show will be brought forward to Sunday 22nd October for this reason.)

BACK NUMBERS:  Due to the increase in the number of competitors, the Club will go to a new numbering system with a unique number for each horse and rider combination. When sending entries please include the name of each rider and the horses name that they are riding in each event and also the class numbers they are entering in to.Include your current Club number as many will not change. Please make sure you hand in your back numbers at the end of each show day.

New Website

The CCRAC is going online, you can view our new website under construction at http://www.techbay.phpclanwebsite.com/webdesign/ccrac/

Soon you will be able to use the site to enter online, view the monthly newsletter, find out about show results and see photos from our shows.

Meanwhile, each Committee member is doing a fundraiser to help pay for the website. If we can make enough money out of the fundraisers we would also like to throw a Christmas party free of charge for all our members. Please support these fundraisers.

Fundraisers

Clinic:

Mary Ward will be running a clinic on Saturday 30th September, the day before the next show. There will be two sessions, Western in the morning 9-12am, and English in the afternoon 1 - 4pm.

Cost will be $30 per 3-hour session, $60 if you wish to attend both sessions.  Numbers will be limited to 10 riders per session. (Fence-sitters $15 per session, no charge for non-riding husbands, kids etc accompanying participants, they will not be part of the Clinic).

Half the money raised at the Clinic goes to the Club plus there will be canteen available on the day and all the proceeds of the canteen will go to the club.

Custom Concent - Stallion Service

Vicki Hagan will be auctioning a stallion service to her mega-quiet chestnut QH stallion (you may have noticed him dozing at the side of the arena last show), the auction to be held at our October show. Custom Concent (Banjo) is by My Only Concention (Imp) and is already a proven sire of points-earning progeny.

Banjo’s normal stud fee is $800 for reg QH mares and $500 for others (TB, Arabian, Appaloosa, Palomino etc), so if you are planning to breed this season, grab a bargain service. (There will be a reserve on this - service fee less handling fee to go to Club).

Custom Concent

Kerry’s photos

Kerry Morgan will be offering standard photo prints at $1.00 per print - a small album will be in the office area with some prints of the previous month’s show, you can select any photos you want and put the money in the container provided. Reprints can be done at the same price. If you would like an 8” x 10” reprint of a photograph, let Kerry know and one can be done for $10 if the image quality is satisfactory. All money made after costs will go to the Club. Contact kerrymorgan@aapt.net.au or ph 0438 631 037

Points System

For new exhibitors, we would like to explain how the Points system works.
